Full Biography detailed

Romeo Wecks, born in Berlin in 1994, studied composition at the University of Music “Franz Liszt” Weimar with Michael Obst, Ulrich Kreppein, and Reinhard Wolschina. He completed his postgraduate studies with Robert HP Platz at the University of Music Würzburg in 2023 with magna cum laude. He also studied ensemble conducting for new music and received impulses in electronic music from Annesley Black.

Wecks' music does not follow a fixed aesthetic but unfolds in open, associative sonic spaces. At its core lie fields of tension between structure and dissolution, concentration and expanse. Serial techniques, spectral approaches, and spatial conceptions enter into dialogue with one another; self-developed tone systems create a high degree of sonic transparency and finely differentiated soundscapes.

His works have been performed at festivals such as the Weimarer Frühjahrstage für Neue Musik, Tage Neuer Musik Würzburg, IMPULS Festival Sachsen-Anhalt, and B-Classic (Belgium). His awards include First Prize at the Sondershausen Composition Competition (2018 and 2021), the Joseph Reinl Prize (Vienna 2018), the KWIDZYN Classical Music Award (Poland 2020), and the Composition Prize of the Kammermusik! Festival Würzburg (2022). For 2024/25 he was awarded a working residency at Künstlerhof Schreyahn.

In the summer of 2025, Romeo Wecks was the only German participant in the international Gugak Workshop of the National Gugak Center in Seoul — an encounter with traditional Korean music that has expanded his compositional thinking and is flowing into current works.

Romeo Wecks lives and works as a freelance composer and pianist in Weimar. He has been a full member of GEMA since 2024.
